age and becomes more severe as time goes by. Fortunately, there are treatment
options for people with gambling problems.
Gambling and depression often go hand-in-hand, as a study by Bland and Abbott
(1998) found. Although this relationship was not found with every gambler, the
authors did note that the more frequent a gambler was, the more likely they were to
be depressed. This study was conducted with data from a community sample of men
and women in Alberta. The researchers also looked at differences between groups
regarding the severity of gambling, childhood trauma, and personality traits.
